July 2000: After
taking 1 month off to do my exams, I haven't had time to relax... and
take a break. The majority of spare time has been spent revamping the
site of my first manga, but I think the site that desperate needs revamping
is this section. But wait, that's going to come soon. But still, I've
got 3 pages of this, which is better than nothing. The art seemed to
have picked up slightly - I'm finally beginning to figure out how the
reflections on Ling Tsai-Shin's clothes work... before they look just
strange. And well, not right. Now they look more right. And we also
get to get the first glimpse of the "villain", the tree-demon.
Yes, it is a tree demon, as it was in the original story (I think).

21st May 2000: Okay... we're onto Chapter
3. Finally! I've also changed the schedule to 4 pages 2 weeks now...
I know I know I'm slacking off, but the truth is I've been planning
major revamps to my OTHER on-line manga, the one that still has no name.
Because I've rediscovered water-colours. And I've found a cheap and
efficient way of colouring in all the little artworks i did without
having to resort to a computer. I don't admit I'm very good with a brush,
but hey, it's not that bad. At least it's got some colour to it. |
7th May 2000: Why did I ever draw Yin Tse-Ha
as a old guy? I should have drawn him as a young, spunky, good-looking
Taoist; then I would enjoy drawing him more. But on second thought,
if he was young, spunky and good-looking, he'll probably end-up chasing
after the young, sultry and beautiful female ghosts that inhabit Chapter
3. In situations like this, the fact that he's meant to be ghost-busting
becomes inconsequential. I will feel the "need" to pair the
beautiful people with other beautiful people. I guess the fact that
he's 50 years too old for that type of thing means I can skip this and
have him level the place instead. |
23rd April 2000: I've had alot of work... to do. And so... after having been overworked for the past 2 weeks, I'm back... with the same 4 pages. I know I should have more, but... a mid-session is coming up for Statistics, which I would otherwise fail if I don't put some effort into studying. The bad news aside - the good news is that it's the Easter holidays (1 week only - what's their problem with holidays), and I'm nearing Chapter 3, which is mostly action oriented. So if you're sick of seeing Ling Tsai-Shin and Yin Tse-Ha (which I am tired of drawing), you can get to see some of the inhabitants of Siu-Sen's ghostly abode. |
2nd April 2000: Ok, I've been lazing around.
I'm only a bit ahead of schedule now, and is going to be a bit further
behind cuz I'm taking next week off for the mid-sessions. Not like too
many people will notice anyway, but. There is still good news; our Taoist
Yin Tze-Ha now gets to do all sorts of neat supernatural tricks, and
so will the ghosts he and Ling Tsai-Shin will meet a few pages down
the track. Please bear in mind, when you read that stuff, that it's
all fantasy; stuff gleamed from watching one too many Hong Kong supernatural
flicks (one of my favourite pasttimes). Real life Taoists may use some
of the same equipment, but that's about all the similarities there are.

26th March 2000: The good news is, I'm actually ahead of schedule. I've actually gone over my "quota" of 4 pages per week (but sticking to the "quota", I'm only putting up 4 pages regardless). The bad news is, I'm sorta behind on my uni work. "Sort of" is the right word here - I'm not exactly behind, but not exactly in step either. Which is pretty much like everyone else - a comforting thought. Luckily it's not an "overworked" session. The other piece of good news is, I'm actually managing to draw much faster than before. I'm taking less time to draw the characters (ofcourse, considering there's not much but standing around and talking), but it's a good sign. All smile. Cheers, people. |
19th March 2000: I've actually been managing to keep to my "4-page-a-week" schedule, would you believe it? But only for about, err, 3 weeks so far? Considering I have quite a workload and quite a lot of work to catch up with (I haven't been doing much, you see...), it may slow down a bit in the next couple of weeks. Especially after the next week... . But it's moving along quite well, glad to say. With the arrival of the Ghost-Busting Taoist, FINALLY we'll get to see some action in. |
12th March 2000: I've finished the first chapter. And has been nearly strangled by my sister for it's content. "WHERE'S THE ACTION YOU PROMISED??! THE ACTIONNNN!!!" Okay, it's not there. Yet. Now that the audience has a good idea of what the basis of the story is (I wrote it from the viewpoint that the audience knows nothing about the basics), it's time to set the stage for some action. As the perceptive would have figured out, Ling Tsai-Shin's search for Siu-Sen would no doubt have him run into all sorts of monsters and demons in her league. And that's going to happen, but surely I can't leave him all by himself with a bunch of blood-thirsty ghosts? Oh, time to add another character. |
6th March 2000: Alright, uni's started and already I'm wagging lectures. But anyways, my revelation for the new millenium is to get something up at the end of each week on Monday (preferably about 4 pages). Ofcourse, that sounds like wishful thinking, but considering my workload isn't that big this session and I'm actually managing to draw faster, it MAY be possible. I'm also dividing this story up into Chapters, if you haven't noticed; about 20 pages each (the standard size for serials). So the good news is that I've nearly finised the 1st chapter... |
27th February 2000: Uni's going to start tomorrow so I've spent the last week trying to these 4 pages up. Not a lot of work, I know... but at least my scheme to put less shading in seems to be working. It doesn't look that bad (it actually looks good in some instances), and it saves me time in that aspect. Well, putting too much shading in (like last time) can look "overdone" sometimes, though it depends on the mood and setting. Luckily this story works better with "blander" shades. Hopefully I don't have a huge workload this year, but I intend to work as fast as I can regardless. |
21st February 2000: After going on a 2-week holiday
to China, getting some type of traveller's flu and now getting terminal
headaches, I've managed 8 pages so far. Not a lot, considering how big
a break I've had. But then I'm plagued by my university, for all sorts
of things , as usual. As for this story, it will undoubtedly be longer
than the last one, but I have made the decision to put as little shading
in as possible, so that may (hopefully) decrease the workload. So far,
it doesn't seem to be working. |
