Ling Tsai-Shin
Ling Tsai-Shin is the original name of this character, whom I believe was a rent-collector. This one is a wandering scholar. In a typical Chinese ghost story, men who falls in love with or marries a supernatural being in disguise always turn out to be complete losers; most end up betraying their supernatural girlfriend/wife, even though the latter bore them no ill will from the beginning. But then Ling Tsai-Shin does have some redeeming qualities - he's bumbling and not-very-bright, but he's kind at heart, brave at times and not a lech (that means a lot to female ghosts). He actually went out of his way to help Siu-Sen instead of running away screaming, which is... admirable. Unsurprisingly, most Ling Tsai-Shins have no real abilities other than being able to run very fast.
Yip Siu-Sen (Human Form)
Siu-Sen looks significantly different as a ghost, but the story never got that far so it doesn't really matter. In all forms of the story, Siu-Sen is always oppressed, sad, and sick of her job which involves leading depraved men to their deaths at the hands of her oppressor, usually by seduction. This Siu-Sen is better educated and more demure than her counterparts, but being demure doesn't mean she isn't going to blast some annoying prick to ashes if they piss her off. That said, she is also more powerful than her other versions - she can still fly and zap people, but she can also create illusions and change her appearance (the pic to the left is her human form).
Yin Tze-Ha
Yin Tze-Ha is the complimentary Ghost-Busting Taoist that appears in nearly all versions of the story - this is a character that the story CANNOT do without. In some versions, he is buddhist monk, but taoists are always better because they're eccentric. The Yin Tzu-Ha in the original was a wacko who scorned the world of humans, but equally hated the world of demons. This Yin Tze-Ha is older, but younger-at-heart (or should I say IMMATURE), and sort-of mercenary in his ways. Which is okay for a Taoist - they're not really bound to strict codes the way Bhuddhists are (lifestyle-wise). Which gives me flexibility on what to do with this character - other than having ridiculous amounts of power, he also serves as a comic relief; tagging along with Ling Tsai-Shin so that he can annoy him.
